International Day for Biological Diversity

Today, 22 May, we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Established by the UN in 2000 to celebrate the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity, this Day is an opportunity to think about the impact of man on the other living species.

Biodiversity is the set of animal and plant species in the biosphere and its ecosystems. It is the result of long evolutionary processes, and thanks to this variety of life in our planet also the survival of man is ensured.

This year’s theme for the day is biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems.

It is important in our territories, so valuable from the point of view of nature, that habitats and ecosystems are protected to the greatest feasible extent, restored where necessary, and that the attention of institutions and citizenship never drops, in full compliance with the protection and conservation standards.
