Calystegia soldanella between the dune flowers

There is another dune plant which risk to disappear among the species that in these days we could see on the coast of the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area: the beach morning glory or shore bindweed (Calystegia soldanella).
This is a small creeping plant with fleshy kidney-shaped leaves and relatively white-rose large flowers that look like a overturned bell. These flowers are very difficult to see because of their short duration.
In the pictures you can see some bindweed in flower on the protected dunes behind a beach club whose manager must be proud of the presence of one of the most beautiful plant species of our sandy beaches!
